About Scientific Services

Scottish Water Scientific Services provides customers with a high quality, Scotland-wide, competitively priced sampling, courier and analytical service. Using our four United Kingdom Accreditation Service (UKAS) accredited laboratories and excellent support systems that link with them, we can offer the customer an unrivalled solution to their analytical requirements.

Sample Analysis

An extensive range of chemical and microbiological tests can be carried out at our UKAS accredited laboratories. We can also offer cryptosporidium analysis and an in-house genotyping service as well as legionella analysis. We deal with a large variety of sample types including drinking water, swimming pools, effluents, leachates and composts, providing all bottles and pre-registered labels to our customers.

Sampling Services

We can provide a Scotland-wide in-house sampling service (UKAS accredited where appropriate), offering automated composite or individually discrete hourly sampling as well as individual manual sampling. This service includes delivery of the samples to one of our laboratories.

Courier Services

We have a comprehensive temperature controlled courier network covering mainland Scotland, delivering samples from Scottish Water sites to our laboratories on a same day basis. Pick ups directly from your premises could also be arranged and we can also co-ordinate flights and airport pick ups for samples coming from the surrounding islands.

Reporting

In order to reduce the amount of paper used for reporting we can offer direct access to our secure electronic results database which is refreshed hourly. This allows results to be downloaded directly into Excel worksheets. Alternatively, if required, test certificates can still be issued by post.

Flow and Load Measurement

We can install temporary flow meters to measure or confirm flow rates. Combined with sampling and analysis, daily loadings/population equivalents can be calculated, and data can be presented in a variety of ways. Using mobile data technology we can remotely retrieve data giving us real time performance information, cutting the number of visits required to remote sites, and therefore reducing costs and environmental impact.
