Working to maintain water supplies in Tolsta area of Lewis

07 December 2017

Scottish Water is advising people in part of the north east of Lewis that we are working to maintain normal water supplies tonight but customers might experience some disruption due to issues at a loch intake pipe.

A Scottish Water team has been working to clear the intake pipe for our Water Treatment Works near Tolsta, which has become blocked with debris due to the high winds.

Working conditions are very challenging, but every effort will be made to clear the intake as soon as this can be done safely.

Scottish Water engineers are currently working to re-route alternative water supplies from Stornoway to serve as much of the affected area as possible. We are also taking water by tanker to supplement supplies from Tolsta WTW.

Some customers in the area might experience loss of water, reduced water pressure or discoloured water until normal service can be restored.

We apologise for any inconvenience and thank any affected customers for their patience and understanding.
