Executive Leadership Team
The Executive Leadership team are responsible for the strategic direction of Scottish Water.
Douglas Millican - Chief Executive
Douglas was appointed as Chief Executive on 1st February 2013 following a period as Interim Chief Executive from October 2012.
Douglas had previously been Finance and Regulation Director since Scottish Water was formed in April 2002. He was formerly with East of Scotland Water, initially as Financial Controller and latterly as Commercial Director.
Prior to this, he worked with Price Waterhouse and Tyco. He is a Chartered Accountant with a BCom from the University of Edinburgh and is an Associate Member of the Association of Corporate Treasurers.
Geoff Aitkenhead - Asset Management Director
Geoff was formerly General Manager, Customer Services and Networks at East of Scotland Water (ESW) where he led the Asset Management Group. Previously, he was Strategic Development Manager, Operations at ESW and Capital Planning Manager at Borders Regional Council.
He is a graduate of Newcastle University, a member of the Chartered Institute of Water and Environmental Management and a Fellow of the Institution of Civil Engineers. Geoff is Chairman of Scottish Water Solutions and also sits on the Board of Scottish Canals. Geoff is a former Chairman of WaterAid (Scotland), an organisation dedicated to the provision of clean water and sanitation in the developing world.
Christopher Banks - Commercial Director
Chris was formerly Business Development Director with Ennstone plc. Previously, he was Commercial Director at Scottish Coal and Celtic Energy, following his earlier career in minerals, shipping and construction products. Chris was a Non-Executive Director of Sgoiltean Ura LLP up until the end of March 2013.
He gained an MA in History at Oxford University and an MBA at Cranfield School of Management. Chris is also a Fellow of Chartered Institute of Marketing and a Member of Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supply.
Shirley C Campbell - Director of People, Workplace and Organisational Development
Shirley believes that Scottish Water, a major employer in Scotland, has a responsibility to develop skills and capabilities which people can take back into their communities.
Shirley has responsibility for Workplace and Property and is passionate about Agile working and creating environments where people can flourish and be highly productive,
With 16 years cross sector experience at executive level Shirley has held senior Human Resources and Corporate Services roles at Heriot Watt University, Royal and Sun Alliance (UK Director for Human Resources) and Aviva (UK Organisational Development Director) before joining Scottish Water in 2011. In Aviva she was Operations Director for Norwich Union Direct and worked internationally on the development of Aviva’s operations in India.
She is a lay member of Court at the University of Dundee and a member of their Human Resources and Remuneration Committees. She has also been an adviser to INSEAD Business School in France on their Executive Education programme. Shirley has a BSc (Hons) in Psychology and a post graduate qualification in Personnel Management. She is a Chartered Fellow Member of the Institute of Personnel and Development and a trained counsellor
Mark Dickson - Director of Technology and Information
Mark was formerly General Manager of Customer Service where he championed the delivery of improved customer service across Scottish Water with a real focus on customer satisfaction.
Prior to this Mark held various other customer service, operational, engineering and commercial roles leading service improvements and business change.
Mark is a graduate of Strathclyde University. He is an accomplished customer service professional and a Chartered Civil Engineer.
Peter Farrer - Chief Operating Officer
Peter was formerly Customer Service Delivery Director and prior to that, General Manager of Business and Asset Planning.
Prior to this, Peter was General Manager of Operations and has held various other operational and engineering roles within Scottish Water’s predecessor organisations, East of Scotland Water and Lothian Water and Drainage.
He has 29 years experience in the water industry since graduating from Heriot Watt University as a Civil Engineer in 1984. He is a Chartered Civil Engineer, gained an MBA from the Edinburgh Business School in 2001 and is a Fellow of the Institution of Civil Engineers and a Vice President of the Institute of Customer Service.
Ken Hutchison - Capital Investment Director
Ken has a career spanning 25 years in the water industry in Scotland. He has worked across a wide spectrum from design, construction, operations, and customer service. He has operated at a senior level over the last 10 years and has lead significant change projects which have transformed Scottish Water's operational and capital efficiency and delivered significant customer value.
Previously Ken was General Manager of Asset & Investment Management, General Manager of Capital Investment Delivery and General Manager of Operations (North East & West).
He graduated from Heriot-Watt University with a BSc in Civil Engineering and has an MBA. Ken is a Chartered Member of the Institution of Civil Engineers, Member of the Institute of Water, Member of the Institute of Directors and is an accredited executive coach. He also sits on the Board of Energy & Utility Skills.
Simon Parsons - Director of Strategic Customer Service Planning
Simon was formerly Chief Scientist and General Manager of Scientific Services and represented Scottish Water in science, research and public health communities. Prior to joining Scottish Water in 2012 he has a long career in academia at Cranfield University where he was the Professor of Water Sciences and led the Cranfield Water Science Institute. Simon now holds a visiting chair at Cranfield.
Simon has a BSc and PhD in Chemistry from Leicester University, is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry and sits on the board of UK Water Industry Research (UKWIR).
Alan Scott - Finance Director
Alan joined Scottish Water in September 2013 from Balfour Beatty Regional where he was Finance Director, having previously held the roles of Finance Director and Interim Managing Director of Balfour Beatty Engineering Services. Alan was Finance Director of Miller Construction for 8 years and has also held Finance Director positions in the oil service industry.
Alan has an MA in Economics and Accounting from Aberdeen University. He qualified as a Chartered Accountant with Arthur Anderson where he spent 10 years in the Corporate Recovery Services Team.
Chris Wallace - Director of Communications
Chris Wallace joined Scottish Water in April 2007 as Director of Communications.
Chris is a former Managing Director of Barkers Scotland. He attended the University of Stirling and has a BSc in Management Science and a diploma in Marketing.
Chris is responsible for advising the leadership team and board on corporate reputation and for leading teams working in media relations, public affairs and internal communications.
