Alnwickhill Community Consultation

Our new water treatment works at Glencorse will replace the existing treatment works at Alnwickhill. At this time the existing water treatment works will become surplus to the operational requirements of Scottish Water. View a plan of the site here. The red line shows the area that will become surplus to our requirements.
We have been in regular dialogue with the City of Edinburgh Council (CEC) and Historic Scotland about the redevelopment of the water treatment works and we made representation to the Edinburgh City Local Plan review in July 2007, promoting the site for residential development.
We have applied to CEC for 'planning permission in principle' to seek to formally confirm that residential development is acceptable on this site. This application will include an illustration of how the site may be developed but it will not include details of the number or type of houses or road layout and landscaping. This level of detail has not yet been fully developed and will be subject to separate consultation and planning application to CEC at a later date.
In conjunction with our initial planning application to the CEC we will also shortly be entering an open market process to select either a buyer for the redundant water treatment works or a partner to develop the site. At this stage more details of house numbers, layouts etc will begin to take shape. It is important to note that any capital receipts generated by a sale of land by us will be reinvested back into Scottish Water projects to help us deliver a better service to all our customers.
We welcome any feedback that you may have on the proposal. If you would like any further information before the public exhibition or you would like to let us know your views, please do not hesitate to contact us at
