Ayrshire Water Mains Improvement
What we’re doing
We're investing across Ayrshire to improve the water mains network in your area which will mean you can enjoy clearer, fresher drinking water when you turn on your taps. We will be replacing, repairing or upgrading over 700 miles of water mains pipe across Ayrshire, that’s the equivalent of a return journey from Edinburgh to London. This work will not only help to improve the drinking water in your area but will also help to provide greater security of supply for the area.
How we will do this work
There are a number of methods that we can use to carry out this essential work in your area:
- Pipe bursting or Slip lining:
- Spray lining:
- Mains cleaning:
Sometimes it is not possible for us to use any of the previous methods because of operational or health & safety reasons. In this situation we will use the traditional method of open trench excavation, so we can abandon the old water main and replace it with a new one. This method does involve more digging within the area.
The option that we will use to carry out the essential maintenance work in your area has been selected as it is the most suited for the network of pipes in your local area.
Partners
We will be working with Barhale Construction who will carry out this essential work on our behalf. Due to the scale of the job, on occasion they may employ the services of other contractors such as Daniels Construction.
