Broadford Memorial Isle of Sky

War memorial at broadfoot Skye

Skye Memorial Spruced Up By Water Volunteers

Scottish Water staff on Skye volunteered time and effort to spruce up a neglected war memorial in time for Remembrance Sunday.

Four workers weeded gravel around Broadford memorial, cleaned the inscribed surface of the memorial, pruned back overgrown bushes, cleaned the memorial’s steps and collected litter.

The volunteers were Graeme Finnie, James Macinnes, John Stoddart and Kenneth Stoddart – all based at Scottish Water’s Broadford depot in the Isle of Skye

John said: "Kenneth are I are both ex-military, and have a common great uncle who fell in the Great War named on the Broadford memorial, so we feel a greater responsibility to this particular memorial. We contacted the council and the War Memorial Trust to make sure we were allowed to help and were delighted to get the go-ahead."

John added: "The day was very rewarding. We received praise from passers by. We’re glad our small effort made an impact."
