Hawick Sewer Improvement Project
This £1.2m project at Duke Street, Hawick in Scottish Borders is to replace the damaged public sewer during the storms of December 2015. This will also help alleviate flooding during periods of heavy rain and storms.
The work involves replacing the damaged section of sewer which crosses the River Teviot at Mansfield Road and Duke Street / Glebe Mill Street in Hawick. This will bring a number of important benefits to the community.
We will be liaising with Community and working in collaboration with Scottish Borders Council throughout these essential works.
The main phase of construction began on Monday 18th July and is expected to be completed by Christmas. There will be road closures needed at the locations mentioned.
Note: The access to the Foot Bridge will be kept open at all times.
Update 14th December:
Mansfield Road has now been re-opened to traffic and all works are complete with the exception of the tie-in to the existing sewer network at Duke Street and the removal of the temporary over-pumping arrangement. Our contractor encountered an obstruction under the riverbed at Duke Street which has unfortunately slowed progress. They will return to site in the new year to complete the tie-in and remove the over-pumping arrangement with all works expected to be complete by the end of January 2017.
We will be liaising with Community and working in collaboration with Scottish Borders Council throughout these essential works. The work is being carried out by our contractors Morrison Constructions and the project reference is Capital/5004540020/MRN.
