Site investigation work in Moredun

Scottish Water is due to start work at the beginning of October on site investigations for a new water main at Ferniehill Road.

The work, which involves laying a new section of water mains pipe along Ferniehill Road, will help improve water quality in the Moredun area of Edinburgh. Ahead of the main phase of construction, we need to carry out site investigations to confirm the condition of the existing pipe and determine ground conditions.  This will involve digging five trial holes at various locations along Ferniehill Road. The locations of the trial holes are in the graphic below.

Key project information:

• Work is due to start on Monday 2nd October 2017 and is expected to take around six weeks to complete

• Each section of trial hole work will take around a week to complete

• The first trial hole will be carried out at the north end of Ferniehill Road next to the park. There will be two-way temporary traffic lights in place.  Work will then progress down the road towards the junction with Gilmerton Road

• We will be speaking to any affected businesses ahead of work starting

• There will be some parking restrictions in place during this time

• Main construction work to lay the new water main is not expected to take place until the end of the year/early 2018. We will keep the community informed as work progresses

• This project is being carried out on our behalf by George Leslie Ltd
