Scottish Water's involvement in composting is an exciting development for the company.

It all began in September 2003 when we converted our redundant treatment works in Cumbernauld into the Deerdykes Composting and Organics Recycling Facility.

Since opening in February 2005, we have recycled thousands of tonnes of green and garden materials including grass cuttings and wood chips from Local Authorities and Scottish businesses.

This organic material would have previously been sent to landfill, but now, thanks to the composting process, it can become a valuable soil improver - Pod soil booster.

Pod Soil Booster

Pod soil booster adds valuable organic matter, plant nutrients and beneficial microorganisms to your soil.

Whatever you use it for, it is a cost-effective product that will save you time and money.

Benefits include:

  • Soil improvement.
Mixing Pod with poor soil improves its quality and lessens the need for additional fertilizers. Disposal and haulage costs that are incurred when exporting materials off site are also reduced.
  • Less watering, so less work for you.
Thanks to Pod's water holding ability, plants and turf grow better and faster.
  • Faster growth.
The rich nutritional benefits of Pod stimulates the development of grass seeds and plants. Site landscaping is rapidly improved, creating a better image for your potential customers from the start.
  • Flood prevention.
Used on sites with a poor soil make up, Pod's water holding ability means that potential flooding can be easily avoided.
  • Environmental advantages.
Pod's green credentials will appeal to a variety of different buyers when it comes to choosing a home.
  • Peat free.
Pod reduces the need for peat products in landscaping, providing a more sustainable operation.
  • Meeting sustainability targets.
Using Pod can help to support external reporting on sustainable procurement, Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and environmental reports
