Household Charges 2008-2009

Scottish Water is delivering for the people of Scotland.

We have continued to deliver on our promise to minimise household charges across Scotland for 2008/9, with charges for household customers increasing by less than the rate of inflation. As a result, the charge for the average household bill in Scotland (£310) will continue to be lower than the average household bill in England and Wales (£330).

This will mean that the average household* will still pay less than £1 a day for the water services they receive. No matter what Council Tax band your property is in you will still pay less than a £1 a day for all the drinking water you receive to the taps in the heart of your home, and the majority of you (unless you are in Council Tax band H) will pay less than a £1 a day to have all the waste water removed from your home, treated and then returned safely to the environment.

The table below shows that household customers in Scotland now pay less than customers in seven of the private companies south of the border.

Increase in charges

The table below shows the Scottish Water's increase in household charges for 2008/9 is the joint lowest percentage increase in mainland UK - a rise of 0.5% below the Retail Price Index inflation.

* The average household is between Council Tax Band B and Band C and has a combined bill of less than £1 a day. Individual water supply and waste water collection charges are less than £1 a day for all households (except for waste water collection charges for Band H households).
