Bogus caller

Identify the good guys from the bad guys.

Scottish Water is doing everything possible to minimise the risk of anyone impersonating our employees.  Anyone calling on behalf of Scottish Water will always carry an identification card with a photograph.  They will drive a vehicle clearly marked with the Scottish Water logo.

Our employees will not ask for, or accept, any money from you at your home.

Three C's Rule

We recommend that when answering the door to anyone claiming to be from Scottish Water, you follow our 'Three C's' rule: CHAIN, CHECK, CALL

1. Chain - use a door chain if you have one and ask to see the caller's identity card.  If they do not have one then send them away!

2. Check the identity card carefully

Is the photo on the card the same as the person at the door?
Does the card contain the Scottish Water Customer Helpline number?
Has the card been tampered with in any way?

3. Call - if you are in any doubt about the caller's identity please call our Customer Helpline on 0845 601 8855*.  The caller should not be allowed access.

* Scottish Water records all calls for quality, training and security purposes. Textphone facilities are available.

We work closely throughout the year with Police Authorities to raise awareness of Bogus Callers.

For more information on this initiative click on the useful links on the right to view/download our Bogus Caller leaflet. This can be viewed in a number of different languages: English, Arabic, Bengali, Chinese and Urdu.
