£20 million in the pipeline for Lochaber
Scottish Water has revealed that its 2010 Vision for the Highlands – a £200million programme of improvements providing more reliable supplies of clearer, fresher drinking water, protecting the environment and enabling development – will see Lochaber benefiting to the tune of £20million.
By 2010, Scottish Water will have invested £1,067 per person in Lochaber since 2006. From the biggest town, Fort William, to scenic Glencoe and remote Ardnamurchan, work is now gathering pace.
Scottish Water projects in Lochaber
Other major projects recently completed include:
- Arisaig £596,000 waste water upgrade to maintain good quality discharges to keep the popular local beaches and coastal waters clean
- Bohuntin £380,000 drinking water upgrade to improve the supply for this tiny rural community of just 10 people
- Strontian £3.3million drinking water upgrade to improve the quality and reliability of the local supply
Major projects recently started and due to be complete this year include:
- Ardgour £90,000 water mains renewal
- Ballachulish £282,000 drinking water upgrade
- Glenachulish £333,000 drinking water upgrade
- Mallaig £445,000 drinking water upgrade
Major projects due to be completed 2009 or 2010 include:
- Fort William £4.4million drinking water upgrade
- Glencoe £265,000 drinking water upgrade
- Loch Leven (Ballachulish, Glencoe and North Ballachulish) £5.2million waste water upgrade to improve the quality of local shellfish waters
