Cleaner, Fresher investment in Forth Valley

Investment in Falkirk and around...

Local people throughout the Falkirk area will soon benefit from a rolling programme of investment by Scottish Water to improve the waste water provisions.

The waste water treatment facilities at Dalderse and Bonnybridge are being refurbished at a cost of over £5.2million. Falkirk’s picturesque watercourses, including streams, burns and rivers – and in particular the River Carron – will benefit from this investment.

Dalderse waste water treatment works

This £5.2million project will ensure that the facility at Dalderse continues to serve 76,000 people across Falkirk, Grangemouth, Larbert and Stenhousemuir. The works is being upgraded to improve the robustness of the plant, enabling the works to continue to meet strict environmental standards set out by SEPA – Scottish Water’s environmental regulator.

Machinery including screens, pumps, and aerators will be refurbished, upgraded or replaced. The work started in July 2007 and completion is planned for October 2008.

Bonnybridge waste water treatment works

Bonnybridge waste water treatment works, which serves the people of Bonnybridge and part of Denny recently had key pieces of equipment refurbished to maintain the smooth running of the works. The work cost £156,000 – this follows on from a £6million refurbishment of the works that took place in 2004.

Improvements to the environment around the River Carron are also a great boost for the area. The programme involves large amounts of investment - £16.7million is expected to be invested in Falkirk by 2010, part of a £116million campaign for the Forth Valley and Argyll & Bute.

A large amount of these projects will be delivered through Scottish Water Solutions - the joint venture partnership of utility companies and contractors set up by Scottish Water to help/transform the country's water and wastewater infrastructure.

Local contractors and the economy will be given a boost as Scottish Water Solutions contract companies for consultation, construction and maintenance of these projects.
