Saltcoats sees clearly
What we're doing
Thousands of people in the Saltcoats area of North Ayrshire will enjoy clearer, fresher drinking water.
The latest phase of the project, which will benefit about 5000 people in the area, will involve the rehabilitation of about 11km of ageing mains pipes
Amount invested
The £600,000 project, which follows the completion last summer of a £7m upgrade of the Camphill Water Treatment Works, is part of the second phase of a major scheme to remove manganese in the distribution mains supplied by the works.
The remaining parts of the second phase of the scheme in the Busbie Muir, Midglen, Gateside and Crosbie water supply zones will take the total cost of this phase to about £2.5m.
Start date
Mid April 2008
End date
Late summer 2008
Area Affected
We are aware of customers’ concern with discoloured water on occasions as a result of manganese in the supply. We are confident that the work we are doing will significantly improve the quality of their water.
Scottish Water will notify all customers affected by the work on an ongoing basis as the project rolls out. There will be some disruption to the water supply in the areas affected during the work and customers will be given 48 hours notice of any planned interruptions.
