Pipe upgrade at Dalmellington will benefit the environment
What we're doing
We are rehabilitating almost 2km of pipes between the town and its waste water treatment works, which serves about 3000 people.
The pipes suffer from a high level of rainwater infiltration because of their age and condition and this adds to the incoming flow at the WWTW and means the pumps are working at high capacity.
The project will rehabilitate 1.8km of sewers in the catchment, reduce infiltration and eliminate the unnecessary cost of pumping.
Amount invested
£350,000
Start date
End of May
End date
Late summer 08
Area Affected
Scottish Water will seek to reduce any disruption to customers during the project but part of it will involve working on a 600 metre stretch of pipe which goes through a number of gardens in the Auchenroy part of Dalmellington. We may require access to a number of private back gardens to carry out the work but will do so only when there is no alternative.
