Seeing clearly in East Lothian
Clearer, Fresher Water
Scottish Water has already identified a number of significant projects to provide clearer, fresher drinking water for customers in East Lothian. Nearly a third of Scottish Water’s budget for the region, over the year ahead, will be directed towards improving the quality of drinking water.
Among the key projects are:
- The £4 million upgrade of the Castle Moffat Water Treatment Works will improve the quality drinking water to the majority of East Lothian. Work is already underway and will be completed in the autumn.
- Around 2,000 properties will receive clearer, fresher water as a result of the £2 million upgrade of the Hopes WTW. Work is already underway, with completion in the autumn.
Clearer, Fresher, Greener
Over the next year nearly a half (45%) of Scottish Water’s budget for East Lothian will be invested to improve the environment. A number of projects have already been identified.
Among the key projects are :
- The communities of Dunbar, West Barns and the brewery at Belhaven will all benefit from the completion of the £10 million Dunbar WwTW in the spring. The new facility will not only allow the region to meet council growth targets but will also benefit the sensitive local bathing and shellfish waters.
- At North Berwick the wastewater treatment works has received significant funding to help maintain the security of the bathing waters. The facility has been upgraded with a significant investment in new pumps.
- The communities of East Linton and Prestonfield will benefit from improvements to the local WwTW. Improvements to the pumping station will deliver some growth and improve the quality of the River Tyne.
Clearer, Fresher, More
We are aware of the increased demand for new homes in parts of East Lothian and the local authority has provided us with lists of their priority projects. Scottish Water plays an important part in the process, and we are phasing our investment in line with their plans. Across the region £5 million of our budget for the next 2 years is targeted towards growth.
Some of these key projects include:
- Scottish Water is working closely with developers in the South East Wedge to construct a Treated Water Storage Tank and around 6 miles of trunk mains. This will allow for further growth in parts of East Lothian.
- The new £10 million Dunbar WwTW, which will be completed in the spring, will allow for further growth in this rapidly expanding part of the region.
- At East Linton work will begin early in the New Year to replace the waste water treatment pumps and add new 6mm screens. This will provide further capacity for around 120 more residents.
