Not A Lot of Old Knotweed
Protecting your natural environment certainly isn’t a lot of old knotweed for us.
What we're doing
As part of Scottish Water’s 2010 Vision for Dumfries and Galloway, a number of environmental projects are getting underway this summer. This will not only help to protect rivers and burns across Dumfries and Galloway, but also help to protect some of the south west’s flora and fauna.
During a project to improve the wastewater treatment works at Penpont, the Scottish Water's Environment Team advised on dealing with the Japanese Knotweed found in the area
Amount invested
£1.25 million
Area Affected
At Penpont taking account of the knotweed was an important part of the project design. We consulted closely with the Scottish Water environment team, SEPA and the Local Fisheries Board to work out the best location for the outfall pipe.
“This is just one of a number of such considerations we need to make before any work can begin on site. Careful environment studies are carried out, communities are consulted and the specialist needs of local customers are all taken into consideration before work can begin.”
