Upgrade at Blairgowrie to connect new houses

What we're doing

Scottish Water is investing in the waste water treatment works at Blairgowrie to enable development in the area. The project will ensure there is extra capacity for new properties to be connected and that existing properties continue to receive a reliable waste water service.

Amount invested

£2.5 million

Completion date

December 2008

Growing, thriving communities

The facility at Blairgowrie currently serves a population equivalent of 10,000. Facilitating growth in communities is a key part of Scottish Water’s work – more than 300 new houses are being constructed in the area, and all will need to be added to the waste water network, requiring an upgrade to the facilities.

£13million – or one third of the total investment of £39 milion– is going towards upgrading water and waste water treatment works and their associated networks so that developers can build more houses throughout the region.

The facilitation of development is crucial to the local economy, as it assists population growth and supports jobs in the civil engineering and construction industries.

Project benefits

The benefits of the upgrade are that it will ensure compliance with SEPA’s environmental standards and will be a much more reliable facility, reducing any risks to the River Ericht – which is a popular salmon fishing river.
