Findhorn raises a glass to a reliable water supply

Members of Findhorn Community Council are raising a glass to toast the completion of Scottish Water’s £600,000 investment in new water mains for the popular seaside village.

The project was part of Scottish Water’s 2010 Vision for Moray – the ongoing £23million programme of improvements providing more reliable supplies of clearer, fresher drinking water, protecting the environment and enabling development.

Work began in February to install 4.5 kilometres of tough plastic pipes to provide Findhorn with a more reliable supply following interruptions in recent years due to the deteriorating condition of the old cement mains. Sections in the centre of the village and at the seafront were completed first to avoid causing disruption to visitors during the Easter holidays.

Scottish Water’s project manager Andy Barnett said:

“Findhorn is popular with visitors so we made sure we kept disruption to a minimum and we’re pleased to be finished in time for the peak tourist season. The local residents and businesses were very understanding and I’d like to thank them for their co-operation.

Our contractors, BiWater Leslie, and the subcontractors Sinclair’s were professional and kept people informed. The end result is a more reliable supply of clear, fresh drinking water. The new pipes will serve the community well for many years to come.”

Community "impressed"

Tim Negus, Secretary of Findhorn & Kinloss Community Council, said:

“People have been most impressed by the way the contractors have worked on the project since work started in February. They have put in long hours in all kinds of weather.

We noticed how the workmen did their best to minimise disruption in the village, it can’t have been easy with the narrow streets and footpaths. I am sure residents will appreciate a reliable, improved, clean water supply without the pipe bursts that we have seen in recent years.”

Clearer, Fresher

In addition to the new water mains to improve the reliability of the supply, customers in Findhorn are also benefiting from Scottish Water investment to maintain the quality.

The village’s supply is a blend from Glenlatterach water treatment works near Elgin and Badentinan water treatment works near Rothes. These treatment works are receiving major improvements to ensure clear, fresh drinking water that looks good and tastes good all year round.
