Scottish Water work starts in North Queensferry
What we're doing
We're upgrading and rebfurbishingthe waste water treatment works at North Queensferry.as the works is nearing the end of its useful life and needs replaced. We will also build a temporary treatment facility to maintain the current sewage treatment process throughout the construction period.
We will then demolish the current installation before building the new works in the same position. The works sits on banks of the Forth, immediately to the east of the railway line.
Investment will include
- improved screening of waste water
- refurbishment of mechanical equipment,
- address and prevent future problems caused by corrosion
- help reduce odours around the facility.
Partners
Scottish Water Solutions are managing the project and the work will be carried out by contractors Balfour Beatty.
Start date
Work commenced on Monday the 21st of July
End Date
May 2009
Am I affected?
There will be some disruption to local residents while the work is carried out.
The area around the site, which is situated at the end of Helen Lane on the waterfront, will have limited access to the public and a diversion will be in place for footpath users.
We're working with...
Scottish Water Solutions have given presentations to the community council to inform them fully of the nature of the work before the project started and letters have been sent to local councillors and residents.
In addition, representatives from Balfour Beatty have visited North Queensferry Primary School to advise local children of the hazards that will be in the area.
Scottish Water Solutions and Balfour Beatty have plans to assist with the eco-friendly initiatives at the school by offering manpower and materials. The school already has a silver award for work that included pupils doing beach clean-ups and conserving water and energy.
