Hundreds on Islay to enjoy clearer, fresher drinking water
Hundreds of residents and businesses on Islay will be able to enjoy clearer, fresher drinking water when another major Scottish Water project on the island is completed
What we're doing
Scottish Water has just started a £4.1m project to upgrade the Port Charlotte Water Treatment Works, which serves a resident population of just under 600 and double that number during the busy tourist season.
The investment at the plant, which was built in the 1980s and last upgraded about eight years ago, will improve its performance and allow it to continue to meet regulations on water quality.
Amount invested
£4.1 million
Start date
Ongoing
End date
Late 2009
Partners
Biwater Leslie Joint Venture (BLJV) for Scottish Water Solutions
Area Affected
We are confident that customers will appreciate that any short-term disruption will be far outweighed by the long-term gains they will make when this key project is completed.
There may be some construction traffic on the road leading to and from the works but the project will be contained within the site so there should be little disruption to traffic
