Scottish Water’s £1.8 billion capital investment programme will begin to modernise the industry which has suffered from decades of neglect.  This is the biggest single investment Scotland has ever seen in its water industry.

The programme consists of some 1500 projects designed to upgrade water and waste water treatment works, deliver better quality drinking water and clean up Scotland’s coastal waters and rivers.

Scottish Water has created an innovative joint venture partnership – Scottish Water Solutions -  to deliver the programme which has £2.3 billion’s worth of outputs for £1.8 billion – a saving of £500 million.  The saving is one of the Regulator’s efficiency targets and this new business model is already attracting interest from other parts of the UK and around the world.

Established in April 2002, Scottish Water Solutions is a partnership within a plc structure with 51% owned by Scottish Water and 49% split between two consortia, led by Stirling Water and UUGM.
