A commercially sustainable, stand-alone business, Horizons uses innovative ideas, knowledge and assets to encourage sustainable growth and renewable technologies.

Scottish Water has thousands of assets such as treatment works, reservoirs, water towers and nearly 100,000km of water and waste water pipes. Horizons is capturing the significant commercial opportunities these assets provide Scottish Water to help Scotland’s economy and environment thrive and improve.

The returns generated from this commercial activity will be re-invested into our renewables businesses and other related projects.

Horizons is already making its mark:

• converting waste into compost and in the future, green energy
  
• enabling high speed internet cables to be laid in the sewer system
  
• generating power from wind turbines on Scottish Water sites going forward
  
• enabling improvements to mobile phone coverage across the country
  
• ensuring security of water and waste water services for Ministry of Defence sites
