Vision 2010 Boost for Renfrewshire
Scottish Water has kicked off its Vision for Renfrewshire in 2010, bringing a massive investment programme which will boost service levels, bring clearer, fresher drinking water to customers and improve the environment.
As part of a total investment programme of more than £13m over the next two years, Scottish Water has identified
- more than £9.5m to be invested in maintaining and improving service levels
- more than £3m on providing better quality drinking water
- more than £1.5m on improving the environment throughout the area.
A total of more than 90,000 Scottish Water customers - more than half the population of Renfrewshire - will be able to enjoy clearer, fresher water when improvements to the Howwood and Paisley water treatment works are completed in 2009.

Our water projects in Renfrewshire:
- A £2.8m upgrade and refurbishment at Muirdykes Water Treatment Works at Howwood in Renfrewshire, which serves 83,500 people in the Paisley, Howwood, Johnstone, Kilbarchan, Elderslie and Linwood areas. The project, which will improve drinking water quality, started last summer and is due for completion next spring (2009).
- A £320,000 upgrade at Kaim New Water Treatment Works near Lochwinnoch, which will improve drinking water quality for 7000 people in Lochwinnoch, Kilmacolm and surrounding rural areas. The work started last summer and is due for completion this summer.
- These follow a major improvement project last year (2007) at Blairlinnins Water Treatment Works in West Dunbartonshire, which serves about 100,000 people across Renfrewshire. The same Scottish Water customers will also benefit from forthcoming maintenance work on a section of the water mains from Blairlinnins which crosses the Erskine Bridge.
Our waste water projects in Renfrewshire:
- A £1.5m upgrade at Laighpark Waste Water Treatment Works in Paisley, which serves 74,000 people in the area, to minimise odour . The work started in October 2007 and is due for completion shortly
- Three projects with a combined value of £1.25m to improve the environment and water quality in the Craigbog and Peocklaw burns in Johnstone and the Black Cart burn in Kilbarchan and Howwood, which are due to start this summer and be completed next year.
- We have completed two projects, and will complete another two, which will improve the environment on watercourses in Renfrewshire. These projects, whose combined value totals more than £400,000, will help protect the waters of the Black Cart by reducing the risk of discharge at Bevan Grove and Clark Street pumping stations in Johnstone and at Station Avenue and Mayfield pumping stations in Howwood.
- A £1m refurbishment at Auchans Road Wastewater Pumping Station near Linwood, which will improve the environment by protecting the River Gryffe from spills and reduce the risk of flooding of properties upstream. The work started in November and is due to be completed this summer.
- A £260,00 capital maintenance project to replace the Bishopton Ejector Station, an old-style pumping station, with a conventional pumping station, which will improve the operation of the plant when it is completed.
