Campbeltown Waste Water Treatment Improvements

February 2010 Update

Work Packages 1 & 2

Our contractor, Lagan EPS has  successfully completed Work Package 1 & 2.

The pumped flow from Kinloch Park Pumping Station to  our  treatment works has now increased.  A number of improvements have also been completed at the treatment works, including additional biological treatment units  and the replacement of  aging equipment  (24 membrane cassettes, inlet screens and aeration diffusers ) .

Work Package 3 & 4

Our  contractor, Morrison Construction is nearing completion. The discharge point of the existing outfall pipe from the Kinloch Park Pumping Station has been cleaned out and extended to improve performance and comply with SEPA consents.

The main part of Stage 4 , the construction of a new ‘rising main’ (transfer storm sewer) from Kinloch Park Pumping Station to Slaty Farlan Waste Water Treatment Works is at the final stage.

The improvements to the existing infrastructure on Low Askomil beach are nearing completion.

Work package 5

Black  & Veatch have been appointed to design and construct the long term investment solution for Scottish Water . Early site investigation work will commence in February 2010. Construction will commence in April 2010.

This work package includes:

  • Removing excessive sewage spills from Campbeltown Harbour
  • Refurbishment of Kinloch Park Pumping Station
  • Construct a new outfall from Waste Water Treatment Works (WWTW) for treated storm flows
  • Increased final treatment at the WWTW
  • Network pipework improvements at Woodlands Drive, St John Street, Main Street and McCallum St.
