New Dunoon WWTW planning application submitted
Scottish Water has submitted a planning application for the proposed new Waste Water Treatment Works at Bullwood Quarry in Dunoon.
Our original proposals were granted planning permission by the Scottish Government in April 2008 following a public enquiry to establish the principle of a WWTW at the quarry site.
In September we unveiled improved plans for a WWTW and associated facilities at Dunoon, which will deliver a number of new benefits to the local community, and we submitted a planning application for the new WWTW with Argyll & Bute Council on 18 December 2008.
The new planning application
This planning application will improve the environment in the coastal waters of the Firth of Clyde and allow for growth in accordance with Argyll & Bute Council’s Local Plan.
The re-design will also improve treatment, provide less potential for odours, and have a simpler treatment process and can better accommodate the population fluctuations in a seasonal holiday town such as Dunoon.
There are further applications to be submitted for the pumping station sites which form part of our improved plans. These will be submitted after we have consulted with the local community and stakeholders early in 2009.
We hope to start construction in mid-2009, subject to receiving the necessary consents.
