Investment Overview

In 2006/07 Scottish Water delivered £413 million of Quality & Standards (Q&S) investment to improve treatment works, water mains, sewers and networks across Scotland. 

This was the first year in Scottish Water’s second four year regulatory period to March 2010.

In this period hundreds of communities and millions of customers will benefit from our £2.4 billion planned investment programme.

Growing Thriving Community

We have invested £28.8 million improving water and waste water capacity, enhancing local water and wastewater infrastructure and connecting customers to our waste water system for the first time to help protect the environment.

Service Improvements

A total of £9.7 million has been invested in improving malodour at waste water treatment works, reducing the number of sewer floodings and decreasing the number and length of unplanned interruptions to the water supply.

The investment has also improved water pressure for customers and provided meters to business customers.

Drinking Water Quality: Clearer, Fresher Water

A total of £34.4 million has been invested in improving the quality of drinking water to 440,000 customers, managing water resources and security of water supplies.

Following a £120 million investment, we have equipped Glasgow’s water supply system at Loch Katrine for the 21st century to deliver 90 million gallons of water every day.

Cleaner Fresher Environment

A total of £17.4 million has been invested improving the environment.

In 2006/07 25 unsatisfactory intermittent discharges were improved and significant work was completed to make sure future outputs can be delivered at waste water treatment works.

Capital Maintenance

A total of £148.9 million has been invested in maintaining current levels of service across Scotland

Q&S II Investment

A number of projects from our Q&S II period (2002 – 2006) were still being completed at the start of the Q&S II investment period, for a range of reasons such land purchase and planning,   In 2006/07 we invested £173 million on these projects.
