Veolia Water have fully completed the cleaning of the storm tanks, the subject of yesterday's notification.
Another site activity has now begun, as part of the delivery of the main Odour Improvement Project (OIP), the Veolia project team are due to commence a series of cleaning and modification works in and around the sludge digestion plant. The first stage requires the cleaning of the Digested Sludge Holding Tank which is anticipated to take 48 hours to complete.
Wind direction is currently offshore and is forecast to remain this way for the duration of the work. This essential planned activity is being undertaken now, whilst conditions are favourable, so as to reduce potential operational and odour risks associated with the OIP work at the digestion plant.

The recent period of better weather allowed the site operators, Veolia Water, to fully clean the storm tanks as previously notified on Friday.
There is some residual grit to be removed and this will be undertaken today. Removing the grit from the treatment process is very important as the grit can cause problems for machinery and equipment throughout the site.
The wind direction is currently onshore and is expected to change to offshore later today. The grit removal should not cause any odour issues for the community.

5 March 2010
Following the latest period of snow and wet weather, Veolia Water has started to clean the storm tanks on site, which is likely to take three to four days. The weather forecast indicates that the wind direction will be off shore on Friday, in the direction of Leith docks on Saturday, and off shore again on Sunday.
The baffles on the Detritors require cleaning, and Veolia propose to commence this on Sunday whilst the wind is blowing off shore to keep any possible impact to a minimum and will continue this work throughout next week.
We would like to apologise for any inconvenience caused whilst this work is taking place.
