Seafield Water Treatment

Timeline and Progress Reports

City of Edinburgh Council approval

The Odour Improvement Plan (OIP) won the approval of the City of Edinburgh Council in May 2008.  The OIP is a multi million pound project being funded by Scottish Water to deal with any odour issues at Seafield.

The work is very comprehensive and will include the covering of the key treatment areas that represent the primary odour sources from the facility.   New odour control units will be installed on site and other enhancements at key areas will also be implemented.

Design and Planning Underway

Planning and design of the OIP started in June 2008, and October 2008 sees the launch of the main procurement stage for the project, including submission of planning application and issue of tender documents during November 2008.

The key phasing of the works is:

  • Planning and design - Spring 2008 - Spring 2009
  • Award design & build contract - Spring 2009
  • Start construction works –Summer 2009
  • Complete preliminary treatment works –2010
  • Complete odour improvement works –2011

Customer communications are a top priority

To coincide with the launch of the OIP project, the stakeholder communications plan is getting underway.

This includes an initial information postcard drop to residents and businesses in the community that surround Seafield, a news release to local and national media outlets and the launch of this project website. Invitations are also being sent to a number of local groups and individuals to attend a site visit and tour of the facility.
