Thank you to our customers in Rosneath and Clynder
Scottish Water is thanking customers in the Rosneath and Clynder area for their patience as engineers worked to restore full water supplies following a series of bursts.
Several bursts on mains pipes in the area over the weekend led to about 500 properties suffering a loss of supply at different stages between Friday night and the early hours of Monday.
Network operators acted as quickly as they could and battled round-the-clock to repair the bursts while managing the network of water mains to ensure their work did not create any further problems.
The bursts happened on a six inch main between Garelochead and Rosneath and a four inch connecting main.
Several pallets of bottled water were also delivered to Rosneath and Clynder between Sunday morning and early Sunday evening.
The bursts were repaired and normal supplies restored in the Rosneath area by late on Sunday and to a small number of affected properties in the Clynder area by early Monday.
A £350,000 project to replace the six inch main with new pipes was started in June. This will reduce the frequency of bursts in the Rosneath, Clynder, Rahane, Mambeg and Rockville areas, which has suffered from such disruption to supply in recent years.
This work will improve services to more than 1000 people in the Rosneath area and is expected to be completed in the next few weeks.
Scottish Water will replace more than 8km of main and will decommission the Rosneath service reservoir.
In their place we are laying about 3.5km of new mains pipe starting in Barbour Road, Kilcreggan and then along a route which roughly follows the B833 road to just south of Clachan Farm, Rosneath. This new mains pipe will come from the Peaton service reservoir near Cove.
The improvements are part of Scottish Water’s 2010 Vision for Argyll & Bute, which includes a programme of investment in water services worth about £72m over the next two years.
