Road Closure Extended

Scottish Water is apologising to road-users in west Stirlingshire as it confirmed that a road closure on the A81 near Balfron Station will not be lifted by this weekend, as had been anticipated.

The road closure is now expected to continue for about a month to enable Scottish Water to complete work where the Ballat Bridge was damaged in a road accident.

Scottish Water had expected the work to have been completed, and the road closure lifted, by this weekend but some additional work on the installation of crash barrier technology has still to be carried out.

To enable this to be completed, the road closure will remain in place. The existing diversion, arranged in liaison with Stirling Council’s roads department, will also continue along the B834, A809 and A811travelling south to north and the reverse travelling north to south.

Ruaridh MacGregor, Scottish Water’s regional corporate affairs manager, said: “Scottish Water is very sorry that we have not been able to complete our work and lift the road closure this week as we had previously stated.

“We understand that people will be disappointed with this. However, I would emphasise that this additional work is very important and complex.

“Scottish Water thanks all affected road users for their patience and understanding and we’d like to remind the public that local traders and companies remain open for business as usual while the work and road closure continue.”
