Irvine is Harbouring a Scottish Water Top Up Tap!

18 May 2021
Residents and visitors heading to Irvine Harbourside can now enjoy fresh, great-tasting water when they’re out and about with the launch of our latest Scottish Water Top Up Tap.

It’s the 43rd tap to be installed in our growing network of public water points encouraging people to use refillable bottles to help stay hydrated, protect the environment by reducing waste, and save money.

Ayrshire lass, Nyah from Troon, has already been making great use of the tap.

Topping up!

11-year-old Nyah, from Troon, tops up from the tap to stay hydrated on her cycle.

Nyah, 11, said: “I just love cycling from Troon, through Shewalton Woods Nature Reserve to Irvine with my mum and dad. Now we can stop at the tap to re-fill our water bottles before cycling back home. It’s great!”

The Irvine tap joins a growing network of bright blue water-refill points popping up all over Scotland, as part of our Your Water Your Life campaign. The campaign is encouraging people to drink more tap water, carry a reusable water bottle when they’re out and about, and help reduce plastic waste.

Georgina Reid, Scottish Water’s corporate affairs regional manager, said: “It’s fantastic to have one of our Top up Taps at Irvine Harbour and we’re encouraging everyone to make the most of it when they spend time here – all they need to do is remember to take a reusable water bottle so that they can easily top up.

“Drinking water from a refillable bottle is good for your health, it's good for the planet by helping to reduce the volume of single-use plastic, and it's good for your pocket too.”
