Selection Process

Our 2019 graduate recruitment opens in August, however, you can pre-register your interest from July onwards.

Our selection process is designed to explore your skills, thought processes and behaviours in a range of different scenarios. We do this because it’s vital that we make the correct decisions for you and for us. This can be the beginning of a great career at Scottish Water.

1. Online Application

Applying online is easy and will not take you long:

  1. Upload your CV or LinkedIn profile plus a cover letter
  2. Answer a few questions about your skills, experience and what you would bring to Scottish Water
  3. Revise your application to make sure you touch on everything we ask

Our team will carefully review your application and let you know the status of your application via email.

2. Online Ability Test & Video Interview

If your application is short listed, we will invite you to complete an online ability test and video interview.

The ability test will assess whether you meet the role-specific abilities stated at the job advert.

The online video interview combines questions related to your aspirations, education and professional experience.

The next step is for us to thoroughly review your answers and email you whether or not you are eligible for the next stage.

3. Assessment Centre

If you successfully pass the online phase, you will be invited to undertake some assessments at our premises. Here, you will be able to learn more about Scottish Water. You will also meet some trained Scottish Water assessors; who will ensure a fair assessment approach.

At this final stage, you will participate in activities where we can see you in action. We want to find out more about you, your aspirations and how you would fit our business, before making any final decision. These could include group/written exercises and a presentation.

You will also attend a face-to-face interview; which you can prepare by spending some time considering the qualities relevant to the job that you have gained from your experiences and achievements.

After this final phase, we will let you know whether or not we are offering you a position at Scottish Water within four weeks. It is also worth saying that throughout the process we will reimburse reasonable travelling costs.
