World Toilet Day - fundraising for WaterAid Scotland still open

Scottish Water and World Toilet Day

Scottish Water aims to raise £130,000 for WaterAid Scotland in 2013/14, with every penny raised going to projects in Zambia.

The money will go towards building 10,500 household latrines, 240 latrine blocks in schools and health centres, and raise awareness by educating people about good sanitation and hygiene.

  1. In Zambia, 4.7 million people don’t have access to safe, clean drinking water. That’s over a third of the population
  2. In Zambia, over 7 million people, more than half the population, don’t have access to adequate sanitation and a safe, clean place to go to the toilet
  3. In Zambia, over 5,000 children die every year because of diarrhoea caused by dirty water and poor sanitation

Fundraising Facts

Just £15 is enough to give one person access to safe water and sanitation for life.

This year, for the first time ever, we are involving our customers in WaterAid Scotland fundraising - find out more and donate to WaterAid Scotland here.
