Busby Glen

What We Have Done

As part of multi-million pounds worth of investment across the Greater Glasgow area where we have transformed Glasgow's waste water systems, we have carried out significant upgrades to the sewer network in the Busby Glen area. This work will reduce the risk of sewer flooding and provide environmental improvements to the local water courses.

Once fully connected, the new infrastructure will help prevent items which are wrongly flushed down the toilet, such as baby wipes and plastic cotton buds etc. from overflowing into the River White Cart Water. It will also reduce the risk of sewer flooding to properties in the area as well as to Busby Glen Park.

Our alliance partners amey Black and Veatch (aBV) have carried out the works.

Busby Glen Park

Update February 2024

We are now set to return to Busby Glen Park to carry out final works. This involves the installation of pumps at the new pumping station and energising our infrastructure.

Site cabins are expected to arrive on site on Monday 19th February.

The duration of the work is expected to be around 12 weeks, with the pumps due to be delivered on Wednesday 28th February. A large crane will be brought to site to lift the pumps into position – this is scheduled to take place on Thursday 29th February.

All work will take place within the existing heras fencing, within the footprint of the pumping station, and public access to the park will not be affected during the works. While the park will remain open, it is important to mention that there will be a temporary restriction for an hour or so when the crane arrives on site and gets into position – this will also be the case when the crane leaves the park at the end of the works. This is vital for health and safety reasons, to help protect the public and our workers.

We thank everyone for their patience and understanding.

Community Legacy

Scottish Water committed to contributing a sum of £50,000 towards enhancements in the park for the benefit of the community.

East Renfrewshire Council is leading on the delivery of the improvements for the park, and they have been reviewing the results of the survey which we ran to capture views on how the money could be best spent.

In full cognisance of the community feedback, the council now plans to make the following enhancements for park users:

1.           Story boards to be positioned along the walkway.
2.           Tarred access ramp running from the end of the resurfaced path up to the viewing point to help accessibility.
3.           Install some picnic benches.
4.           Install some benches.

East Renfrewshire Council is now working on final costings and establishing the locations of the additional improvements.
