There is an area of mature trees on SW land which lie in-between Fairmilehead office building and Buckstone Terrace (A702)
On 21 Feb 2020 a tree came down and fell towards the office building narrowly missing a SW staff member and hitting the corner of the building.
Following several tree surveys which were carried out by qualified arboricultural specialists and consultations with Scottish Forestry and Edinburgh City Council a number of trees were removed with the recommendation that further felling should take place.

A felling licence has been applied for with Scottish Forestry which can be commented on until 15th September via their web portal: Scottish Forestry Public Register.   Case Reference: FPA-7344

A total of 140 conifer trees with an additional 3 broadleafed trees are to be removed. We propose to fell the conifers with the retention of broadleaf species in various groups across the area.  Only three broadleaf trees in poor condition require to be felled. Once the felling licence has been granted we will be able to advise of a start date for this work.

Replanting Plan

Following consultation with Scottish Forestry and Edinburgh City Council the following replanting plan has been proposed. A detailed plan can be viewed here but below we have provided an overview:

We propose to replant a total of 511 trees between November 2020 and March 2021. The trees will mainly be a woodland mix of the following species:

  • Black Alder
  • Silver Birch
  • Scots Pine
  • Sweet Cherry
  • Sessile Oak
  • Common oak
  • Rowan

Some of those trees to be planted along the road edge will be more mature. Additionally there will be 4 lime and 3 whitebeam to the south of the main woodland area.
