A Scottish Water project has seen pupils at Tong Primary School receive new play equipment aimed at encouraging them to have fun outside.

As work nears completion on a £9.3m project to upgrade the water network serving communities north of Stornoway, Scottish Water and alliance partner Caledonia Water Alliance (CWA) gifted the pupils two mud kitchens and a playhouse, as well as some hi-vis vests, as part of Scottish Water's commitment to leave a positive legacy in communities across Scotland.

The project, which got underway towards the end of 2019, involves the construction of approximately 21km of new water main between Marybank and Tolsta, as well as a new pumping station at Back and a new water storage tank at Tolsta.

The work, which has been carried out on Scottish Water’s behalf by CWA and contractor Macaulay Askernish Ltd, is expected to be complete by the summer.

Project Manager Lee Biddulph said:

“We were delighted to be able to make this small contribution to Tong Primary School as we enter the final stages of this major water upgrade project for the communities to the north of Stornoway.

“It is important for us to engage positively with the communities that we work in and hopefully the mud kitchen and playhouse are things the pupils will be able to enjoy for years to come.”
