Licensed Providers (LPs) are now charged for water and wastewater services provided to vacant properties.

Even if vacant properties are not actively producing goods or delivering services, owners still benefit as we ensure the premises are fully-serviced and ready for immediate occupancy.

The costs associated with maintaining services to these properties previously fell to other business customers.  A Scottish Government consultation concluded the owners of vacant premises should pay for the services available at their premises.

It’s mandatory for owners and landlords to notify any change of occupancy to their LP. Property owners may contact their LP directly or use the Landlord Portal to report changes of occupancy.

Vacant Properties Charging FAQ explains the background to the change, what property owners are required to do and also explains what they can do to minimise the impact of this change.
