Nurturing and Investing in Talent

Our philosophy is that 'everyone has talent'.

These talents should be developed to their full potential to enable our people to meet their career aspirations.

We believe that being a great place to work means giving you the tools and opportunities you need to take control of your own learning. This will enable you to develop your skills in your current role and for the future.

The ability to learn quickly, adapt and transform is vital in enabling us to achieve our vision:  'Trusted to care for the water on which Scotland depends'.

We have a wide range of learning and development opportunities which are available for our people to help them grow and progress within Scottish Water.

On the Job Coaching and Learning

On the job coaching and learning is core to your development. We’ve developed the skills of our line managers and created a network of in-business coaches, trainers and facilitators, to support this aspect of your development.

We also support and encourage our people to undertake secondments or spend a week or day in the life of another part of the business. This is a fantastic way to increase your knowledge and understanding of Scottish Water and to develop new skills.

Online Learning

Our online learning suite provides access to more than 700 online learning solutions. This offers flexibility around where, when and how you learn to suit your personal learning preferences and other commitments.

We have a wide range of course levels available, from basic skills to university level, with subjects to suit both business and personal development needs.

Structured Development Programmes

Our talent management approach is to grow our own talent as our people are vital to sustaining success.
One of the ways we do this is through structured development, including Modern Apprenticeships, Graduate Programmes and our award winning Future Leaders Programme.

Further Education

Where possible, Scottish Water will support you in the completion of Further Education qualifications relevant to the needs of your business area and in line with your own development plan.

These qualifications may be gained through vocational work-based training, attendance at college/university or through distance learning programmes.

Supporting Chartership

We’re committed to facilitating and supporting a route to Chartership for our people if this forms part of their aspirations for personal development and they have the relevant academic backgrounds to successfully complete their chosen discipline.

We have range of other development solutions including leadership development courses and coaching and mentoring.
