Joint Statement

Scottish Water and Joint Trade Unions have published a statement of support recognising Black History Month taking place during October 2021.

The statement highlights the role that Diversity and Inclusion plays in the delivery of our services to customers and communities across Scotland every day and in our workplace for employees.

Statement

"We wish to warmly acknowledge Black History Month and to celebrate the history, traditions, and cultures that our different minority communities bring to our country and to our organisation.

At Scottish Water, we seek to create an environment where people feel valued, included and where they can bring their whole self to work. We know Scottish Water has work to do to ensure that we are truly reflective of the diversity of all the communities we serve.

Our Diversity and Inclusion strategy sets out how we intend to achieve this; supported by our flourishing Belong group networks for people to get involved and influence our approach.

In the last few years, we have also seen growing concerns about aspects of unacceptable behaviour in our society; most recently to concerns around violence against women and levels of racism and racist behaviour by a minority of people in our society.

We expect everyone who works for Scottish Water to support our approach to diversity at all times. We are an inclusive and caring workplace, welcoming to all, and understanding of the value that diversity brings.”
