New water main in Oban

Major Investment

Our £4.6m investment will help improve resilience of the water supply to our customers.

Georgina Reid, Scottish Water’s corporate affairs regional manager said: “This has been a complex project from the very start, but a huge amount of effort has gone in to making it run as smoothly as possible.

“We are now in the closing stages, connecting and testing the new sections of pipework to the network and reinstating the areas where we have been working.

“This is a much-needed project to improve the resilience of the supply to our customers and I am delighted it is nearly complete.”

Work began in November 2020 replacing pipework between Colonsay Terrace and the junction of McCaig Road and the A816.

The next phase saw a delicate operation – involving round-the-clock drilling – to tunnel beneath the important railway line next to Oban High School.

Finally, an additional 500 metres of new pipes have been installed up to the Tullich water treatment works.

Georgina Reid added: “We would like to thank customers for their patience and understanding throughout the course of this work.”
