Complex repairs are required for the areas water main as well as the 700mm diameter brick-built sewer beneath Dens Road
Project Overview
A burst water main occurred on Monday 3rd June with Scottish Water’s field team responding quickly to make the site safe and restore all affected water supplies. Further investigation identified significant damage to the water main and nearby sewer, with repairs now being carried out in close proximity to other significant underground utility infrastructure before the road can be reopened safely.

What happens next?
Complex repairs are now ongoing for the areas water main as well as the 700mm diameter brick-built sewer beneath Dens Road, between its junctions with Dura Street and Arthurstone Terrace.
This section of the road is required to be closed for the duration of the repair work which is currently estimated to be ongoing until the end of October 2024.
The reason for having to extend this repair work is due to our investigations identifying additional work which is required to the water main on top of the sewer, there are also several technical challenges due to the close proximity of the utilities, one being a strategic power cable supplying Dundee City Centre.
We have completed the design for the complex repairs and diverted the 7-inch water main to allow for new sewer pipe installation. Excavations and piling work are almost done, and the sewer replacement will begin soon. Once this is complete, we'll restore the water main to its original path.
Our teams are working Monday to Friday, 07:30 AM to 6:00 PM, with some weekend work to expedite the project. Your water supply and drainage services should remain unaffected, and we'll provide 48 hours' notice if an interruption is necessary. While some noise is expected, we'll do our best to minimize any disruption.
We are also continuing to work with Dundee City Council to ensure the traffic management arrangements work as smoothly as possible, with road users and pedestrians urged to plan their journeys and allow some extra time when possible.
