Lane closure to allow for repairs to a six-inch water main on the A8.

Scottish Water to close one lane Eastbound on A8 near Ratho Station

Scottish Water is planning to close a lane Eastbound on the A8 Glasgow Road, Edinburgh, on Sunday 4 May to repair a burst on the water main. These urgent works are needed to fix the six-inch main under the carriageway on the outside lane near Ratho Station.

For safety reasons a lane closure is needed and, following the reinstatement of the road, the lane will re-open to traffic 24 hours later to allow for the new road surface to cure. It’s anticipated all traffic management will be removed late on Monday 5 May.

The public utility is giving advance notice to road users and encouraging people travelling on this route to allow extra time for their journey. This includes traffic coming from the motorway at the Newbridge sliproads and those using the road to travel to Edinburgh Airport.

A spokesperson for Scottish Water said: “Our operatives will work to reduce the impact and re-open the road as quickly as possible, but we understand this may have affect journey times. We thank motorists for their patience while this essential repair is carried out.”

There is no impact to the supply of drinking water to customers, and Scottish Water will have tankers on standby throughout the repair to minimise any disruption to the water network.
