These works are required as the existing treatment works at Carstairs can no longer cope with the increased population in the area.

The worked involves the construction of a new waste water treatment works (WWTW) for both primary and secondary treatment of waste water. Once the new works have been built the existing treatment works will be demolished.

April 2023

The major construction parts of the new Carstairs Waste Water Treatment Works are now complete.

All pumps, valves, handrails and stairways are in place and the electrical installation is nearly complete. Once that is done we will start to commission the entire plant while continuing to use the old treatment works until everything is approved and signed off.

When the new works have been commissioned, the old primary settlement tanks will be demolished and the final reinstatement works including the new access road and remaining footpaths will be finished.
