Hatton hotspot: Newfield pumping station to Broadmuir trunk main
Project Overview
We are investing £1.2million to replace a water main serving customers in the Hatton area of Aberdeenshire. This work will help ensure a continued supply of fresh, clear drinking water and reduce the risk of bursts in the network.
The first phase of the project commenced in October 2022 and has since been completed. Phase two is currently ongoing, which commenced at the end of February 2024.
The project is being delivered by Caledonia Water Alliance (CWA) on behalf of Scottish Water.

What We Are Doing
We’re replacing 5.8km of water main, running predominantly through rural land. This main connects to the Peterhead to Ellon trunk main, which is also due to be replaced by CWA as part of a separate project.
Why We Are Doing It
The existing water main is ageing and has been experiencing an increasing number of bursts, impacting the reliability of supply to customers. By replacing it, we can ensure a consistent supply of fresh water to the local community for years to come.
Latest Update - July 2025
