A city street is closed off for construction, with barricades, traffic cones, and a sign reading "Road Closed." Construction machinery is visible in the background, and scaffolding covers a nearby building. The weather is wet, with rain making the pavement glisten. Residential buildings line both sides of the street.

We are continuing our urgent sewer repair work in the Haymarket area of Edinburgh.

During investigations on a damaged section of sewer beneath Rosebery Crescent, we identified further damage extending to the main sewer connection on Haymarket Terrace.

Due to the size of the pipe and the depth it is buried - three metres - we have to close part of the road to carry out the work safely.

Latest Update – May 2025

The team on site have been completed the repairs on the south section of Rosebery Crescent and are currently working on the upper section of the street, north of Rosebery Crescent Lane.

We are now approaching the final phase, which is expected to begin on Monday 26 May and last around six weeks. Current traffic management, detailed below, will remain in place. Once this phase is complete we anticipate our contractor will return to undertake repairs to slabs at the bottom of Rosebery Crescent.

Current Traffic Management

  • Road closed between Rosebery Crescent Lane and Grosvenor Gardens.
  • Access to Rosebery Crescent Lane will be maintained via Haymarket Terrace, with updated signage in place.
  • Access to Grosvenor Gardens and St. Mary’s Music School will be maintained.
  • A designated cycle lane will be provided alongside the works.

These essential repairs are difficult due to challenging ground condition and multiple utilities in the ground, however we are working as quickly and safely as possible to get this work finished.

We appreciate the patience and understanding of local residents, businesses, and road users while we carry out these essential repairs. Residents living nearby will receive a letter outlining the works as we approach the final phase.
