West Nicolson Street Sewer Repair

We are carrying out sewer repair works on West Nicolson Street in Edinburgh.

Our team started on site on Monday 5 January 2026 at the archway access at No. 19 West Nicolson Street.

This work involves replacing a short section of sewer.

Our initial half road closure has been changed to a full road closure following discussion with the City of Edinburgh Council due to some road users failing to adhere to signage and diversion routes. This closure is required in order to keep our teams, residents and road users safe. New letters have been distributed locally to communicate the closure. We are also opening the footpath every night.

The height and width of the work area within the archway means that this is a challenging technical operation and unsuitable for an excavator or lifting operations. Our teams have therefore carried out investigation work to gather more information about the work required and are temporarily off site while specialist design work is completed and a lightweight solution that can be installed at the specified depth is found.

The next steps once we return to site will be to deliver shoring as per the design and excavate further before carrying out the repair.

Everything will be done to minimise disruption while these investigations and the work are ongoing.
