Stewarton Kirkford Bridge Overflow Upgrade

Kirkford Bridge

The road is a key route into Stewarton from the M77 and Glasgow

At this location:

We are updating an existing storm overflow and associated pipework to help alleviate flooding during periods of extreme weather.

Work began in June 2025 and will take approximately six months to complete. The required road closure has been timed to coincide with the school summer holiday to minimise disruption to the community.

The project is part of our £500million Improving Urban Waters investment programme.

Update July 2025

The B778 Holm Street is closed at Kirkford Bridge at the Cutstraw Road junction to replace and upgrade a storm overflow.

The work has been timed to coincide with the school summer holidays to help minimise the impact on residents and we are working extended hours and seven days a week to complete it as quickly as possible. We anticipate the road reopening by the end of August.

We appreciate this is one of the main routes into the town, particularly from the M77 and Glasgow, but the closure is necessary for us to carry out the work safely.

Diversions are in place – including an alternative for heavy goods vehicles – and drivers are being advised to allow extra time for their journeys.

We will do all that we can to minimise any disruption and would like to thank everyone affected for their patience and understanding.
