Project Overview

We have completed further upgrades to the water network in Port Ellen to help ensure customers continue to enjoy fresh, clear drinking water and benefit from a reduced risk of burst pipes.

The work began at the CalMac Ferry Terminal in February 2025 and was successfully completed ahead of the summer ferry timetable at the end of March.

The project was delivered by Morrison Construction on behalf of Scottish Water.

What To Expect?

This work was carried out in conjunction with Scottish Water’s £3 million investment in Port Ellen, which took place through February and March 2025. More information on this wider project can be found at the bottom of this page.

Construction activities were carefully managed to minimise disruption to ferry users and the local community, with work taking place only after the final ferry of the day. Metal plating was also installed overnight to ensure smooth ferry operations each morning.

We’d like to thank road users and residents for their patience and understanding while this essential work was carried out.
